PORSCHE RECALL

German sports car manufacturer Porsche is recalling all 785 of its 2014 production 911 GT3 cars for a complete engine replacement due to potential fire concerns. Two engine fires in GT3 models saw the company advise customers not to drive their new cars because of concerns about the internals of the flat-six 3.8-litre engine.

According to Porsche technicians a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod, led to the rod damaging the crank case and causing an oil leak, which then ignited.

Porsche says it will replace the existing power trains (including cars which have not been delivered yet) with a brand new engine with newly optimised screw fittings.

Three New Zealand customers who have purchased the $270,000 sports car are affected says the local importer and will have their vehicle engines transplanted in due course.

No other Porsche 911 models are affected by this engine recall says the company.
